Care Act – eligibility

Social Care Institute for Excellence logo

A key component of the Care Act is the introduction of a new approach to the assessment of people’s needs for care and support. The new eligibility determination, which follows assessment, requires consideration of three key areas in order to determine whether the adult’s care and support needs – or carer’s support needs – are eligible for support.

In this film from SCIE, social care practitioners talk about how their working practice will change as a result of the new assessment and eligibility framework. They discuss the key principles of the framework, the impact it will have on individuals and identify some of the challenges in its implementation.
