Community outreach support worker

Salary: £11.50/hour

Closing Date: 14 Jun 2019

Company Name: Care with Heart

Nature of the Company: Care with Heart is a small, community-based service for people with learning disabilities in South Oxfordshire. We are passionate about helping people with learning disabilities make meaningful choices and live the life they choose. We provide high-quality, person-centred, 1:1 care. We provide flexible support to meet people's needs and support their families, go above and beyond, and are always willing to try something new. Working with us is fun, challenging and exciting - and you will be truly inspired by the people you support.

Care with Heart is committed to excellent staff support. We provide all the training you need and will help you grow, develop and pursue your specific interests to further improve the service we provide. We believe caring is a skilled and challenging role, and we pay £11.50 an hour in recognition of this.

Responsibilities: Our community outreach support workers help people with learning disabilities to live their lives and access their local communities. You will be working 1:1 either alone or in a group to help people make meaningful choices and achieve their goals in pursuit of happy, connected lives.

Most importantly, you will be excited and passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities break down barriers to getting out in their communities and achieving their dreams. You will support people with complex health needs and who present behavioural challenges - you don't need experience, but you do need to be flexible and willing to learn. You'll be a great communicator, and able to communicate using other means than words. You'll see the best in people, and help other people see it too.

You'll be supporting people out in the community and in their own homes, providing personal care when needed, and you need to have a positive attitude to maintaining people's dignity and privacy. You'll be administering medication, and you might support people who need help with procedures like feeding via gastrostomy. We'll provide you with all the training you need.

You'll be helping people get out and about so it's essential that you hold a full driving licence, have access to a car and are willing to drive for work. You also need to be willing and able to be active - your job will include helping people go walking, dancing, and anything else they want to do!

Full- and part-time roles are available. You'll need to be able to work shifts including early mornings, evenings, and some weekends.

Benefits: This is an inspiring, exciting position within our small company - you'll have lots of opportunities to shape your role and affect people's lives for the better. We're committed to our staff, and also to continuity of care - you'll build strong therapeutic relationships with a small number of people, and we'll help you develop the skills you need. You'll also have a huge amount of fun, since your job is to help people enjoy their lives!

Although you'll work a shift rota, it's likely that there will be an element of routine to your week because you'll be supporting a small group of people with consistent care packages. We're also a flexible team, and we all work together to make sure we're happy with our working hours. You will be required to work some unsocial hours though - evenings and weekends are part of the job!

At £11.50/hour, Care with Heart pays very competitively for the sector. That's because we value your skilled and committed role as a carer.

Experience: A positive attitude to people with learning disabilities and a great work ethic is more important than experience. However, we would ideally like to find people with previous experience - this could be professional experience or lived experience. We will support you with all the training you need.

Special Requirements: We are based in a village location in South Oxfordshire and you will be supporting people with access to their communities so it's essential you have a driving licence and access to a car.
