Nature of the Company: My Life My Choice (MLMC) is a self-advocacy charity run by and for people with learning disabilities, founded in 1998. The charity delivers a diverse range of innovative and user led projects that enhance and empower the lives of adults with learning disabilities in Oxfordshire. These established projects include the Power Up training,consultancy, and research team, Champions who speak up and campaign, Travel Buddy scheme, 12 local self-help groups, and Gig Buddies.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will work across all MLMC projects to grow and develop youth engagement and membership at the charity. We are looking for someone who has understanding and empathy of the current issues facing young people, with knowledge and experience in youth work and/or a youth work related qualification. Strong youth engagement skills and ability to build rapport with young people quickly is essential.
The Youth Work Coordinator will conduct outreach work to identify and encourage young people with a learning disability (aged 18-28) to become members of MLMC and work in partnership with MLMC project staff to develop a programme of fun, inspiring, and relevant activities.

Benefits: Salary: The full grade for this post is NJC Scale 15-22 and the salary is £23,541 - £27,041 per annum. Salaries are reviewed annually as at 1st April.

Hours of work: You will normally be expected to work 7.5 hours per day, for 5 days a week but alternative arrangements may be negotiated prior to contract offer.

• Pension - You will be enrolled in the MLMC’s staff pension scheme and MLMC will contribute equivalent to 6% of your earnings

• Holidays - Holiday entitlement for this post is 25 days per annum (plus bank holidays) pro rata; additional leave entitlement after 2, 5, and 10 years’ service. Dependent upon performance, staff may receive 2 days special leave over the Christmas period

• Flexible working, working from home; Time off in Lieu (TOIL) - There is an ability to work flexible hours, take TOIL and home working is considered (outside of COVID-19 pandemic context)

Experience: The following skills are essential:

• Commitment to the practice of empowering people with learning disabilities to have choice and control over their lives

• Understanding and empathy of the current issues facing young people

• Strong youth engagement skills and able to build rapport with young people quickly. Understand the value of long-term relationships within youth work

• Knowledge and experience in youth work and/or a youth work related qualification

• Significant expertise in facilitation and training

• Strong organisational and project management skills

• Eager to get out and visit youth settings across Oxfordshire, building relationships, and expanding the charity’s reach

• Have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people and be proactive, inclusive, inspiring and an excellent communicator

• A positive ‘can do’ attitude

• Flexible and adaptable to different areas of work at short notice

• Willingness to follow instruction, learn and to work to objectives

• Good IT Skills including MS Office

• Ability to work well under pressure, achieve targets and meet deadlines.
