Why Oxfordshire’s Care Homes are expensive

The Oxford Mail today publishes a report on care homes across the country. The report, collated by Trusted Care, summarises findings by CQC, as well as providing a rating by the web-site itself.

Oxfordshire is ranked 3rd worst for cost of care in the Country. Anyone who lives in County will know why that is. Oxfordshire was recently judged the most unaffordable place to live in England and is affected by the Universities’ pressure on accommodation, rurality and being within easy access to London, all of which push the cost of living upwards. No surprise to see lcailites in the south of England near the bottom and localities in the north at the top.

Another impact of the cost of living in Oxfordshire is the recruitment difficulties all care providers face. And clearly, when you are trying to deliver high quality care, turnover and vacancies do not help. I’m pleased to say that Think Care Oxfordshire is making excellent contacts through out the County and we have attended a number of job fairs as well as holding pop up job fairs in shopping centres. We are receiving good engagement both from people who may be new to the sector and from people who have left for various reasons.

Whilst there is still a challenge out there, together we will rise to meet it.
