What is digitising social care?

Our Digital Project Team at Oxfordshire Association of Care Providers (OACP) is working in partnership with the Better Security, Better Care programme, funded by NHS Transformation Directorate (formerly NHSX).

The partnership aims to improve data and cybersecurity across the adult social care provider sector in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire through completion of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT). This online self-assessment tool allows organisations to measure their performance against the National Data Guardian’s 10 data security standards.

Why is this important?

All organisations that have access to NHS patient data and systems must use this toolkit to provide assurance that they are practising good data security and that personal information is handled
correctly.

The Digital Project Team supports care providers through the DSPT process - ensuring people’s data is safely stored and that their own business is safe from the risk of a data breach or a cyber attack.

There's no denying it, the time to go digital, is NOW

Adult Social Care is no exception. It can be a terrifying prospect, but it can also be a significant factor in the provision of safe, high-quality, effective care.

In 2021 the Government white paper, People at the Heart of Care, set out plans to digitise the social care sector. This promised investment of at least £150 million to support their aim. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has further bolstered the importance of digitisation with Mark Sutton, Chief Digital Officer at the CQC confirming that it will become:

"increasingly difficult for providers to maintain an outstanding or good rating without having effective ... digital social care record solutions in place."
