Did you know that on average, you need 50 or more applicants on an internet job board to convert to just one new care worker?
With fewer and fewer active job seekers out there, in many cases, you can’t get anywhere near that number of applicants.
FACT: Employee referrals convert to new starters 5-10 times better than job board applicants.
So, in a tough labour market, help is at hand if you can enlist your employees as your new recruitment team!
The Care Friends employee referral app is the way to do that.
The Government has made funding available to support international recruitment into the adult social care sector during the 2023-24 financial year.
In Oxfordshire, this will fund a scheme to distribute grants of £1,500 to help CQC registered providers recruit overseas workers.
The cost-of-living increases are really beginning to affect care workers, with costs continuing to spiral – find help here.
In 2021, the Department for Health and Social Care released two rounds of Workforce Recruitment and Retention Funding (WRRF).
The funding was intended to support capacity within social care but unlike previous grants delivered by DHSC by local authorities, councils had total discretion over local usage, although they were encouraged to consult with the local market.
Oxfordshire County Council has published details on its provider pages. To provide easier reading, we offer this xls spreadsheet.

The Department of Health and Social Care has confirmed funding for the second year of the International Recruitment Project for the adult social care sector. SESCA (South East Social Care Alliance) will be key in delivering £2.76 million in funding for the southeast.
Key Objectives
Connecting Displaced Migrant Care Workers with Vetted Providers
We will soon begin a trial scheme to connect identified displaced migrant care workers with providers who have genuine vacancies and can offer full time positions (i.e. no zero-hour contracts).
We plan to support these providers with funding and guidance to ensure they can offer the necessary support to help displaced workers, many of whom may have had difficult employment experiences. This may include, for example, funding for onboarding, buddy schemes, training, and more.
The scheme will also enable an expedited route to UKVI for Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) applications. This initiative addresses a critical need, ensuring these workers receive the necessary support to continue their crucial roles in the UK social care sector.
If you are an existing sponsor interested in participating in this scheme we encourage you to express an initial interest by emailing
hello@sesca.org.uk. In due course, we will establish regional Care Hubs, which will serve as the primary contact points.
SESCA have updated the International Recruitment Hub on their website www.sesca.org.uk to reflect the 2024/2025 phase of the International Recruitment Project.
A new 'Sponsorship Support' section shares details for care providers and migrant care workers. Information about the upcoming trial scheme will soon be added, ensuring that you're kept aware of opportunities to sponsor displaced migrant workers.
Additionally, SESCA has added a section for migrant care workers, including guidance on how to get help if you’re being treated unfairly, steps to take if your sponsorship ends, and a directory of local support services.
